“Rakestraw Books is a gem:
small, perfect, and the more you peer into it, endlessly deep. The love of good books animates and inspires the place; the staff is passionate and smart – every visit offers equal measures of entertainment and instruction. And Michael Barnard may just be the best bookseller in the Bay Area – which, given the competition, is high praise indeed.

August 2010

Dear Friend of Rakestraw Books,

Where are you and why aren't you at Rakestraw Books? We miss you!

To lure you away from the pool or the tennis court or even just that comfortable chair in your living room (or is everyone away on vacation?), Rakestraw's Readers Recommend a bunch of great new books, there's Book Group News from Julie, and, of course, there are some terrific Writers Reading at Rakestraw.

And, if you'd like to make Rakestraw Books part of your August stay-cation, check out "A Day in the Shade with a Book!" We're going to turn the patio in front of the bookshop into a great place to spend an hour (or the whole day!) reading. Imagine chaises, umbrellas, cool beverages, and you relaxing with a good book! Come join the fun.

So venture out during these dog days of summer: make a lunch date downtown at Mangia Mi or Sushi Bar Hana, then wander over to Rakestraw Books and let us suggest a new book!

All of us here look forward to seeing you soon. Until then, Happy Reading!

Sincerely yours,

Michael Barnard & the Staff
