Why you should care: This year's Book Group Festival -- a celebration of books, book groups, and writing -- is inspired by the powerful belief that sharing stories with each other is incredibly important. As we become more and more disconnected from each other -- our busy lives, the digital illusion -- coming together to discuss a great book, and our lives and values, is more important than ever. Every great book group needs great books to discuss and that's where we come in! During the course of this evening, our team of book nerds will present a terrific array -- some new and some not-so-new -- of books worth reading and worth discussing. We promise your group will go away fired up to read beyond the bestseller list, and way, way beyond your sister's hairdresser's friend's self-published novel!
And, as if that weren't enough to make a splendid evening, we are delighted to present English novelist Sarah Winman. A Rakestraw favorite, Sarah will be presenting her marvelous book, The Kitchens of the Great Midwest. Kitchens of the Great Midwest, "about a young woman with a once-in-a-generation palate who becomes the iconic chef behind the country s most coveted dinner reservation, is the one summer's most hotly anticipated paperbacks.
Each chapter in J. Ryan Stradal's startlingly original debut tells the story of a single dish and character, at once capturing the zeitgeist of the Midwest, the rise of foodie culture, and delving into the ways food creates community and a sense of identity. By turns quirky, hilarious, and vividly sensory, Kitchens of the Great Midwest is an unexpected mother-daughter story about the bittersweet nature of life its missed opportunities and its joyful surprises. It marks the entry of a brilliant new talent.
We are thrilled to invite you to this very special evening. Please invite your friends and come join the fun!
